To establish an open communication between your laptop/desktop and an HMI both devices must be set up on the same subnet. If they are not set up on the same subnet you will not be able to talk to the device. Example: Laptop =I.P 192.168.0.15 subnet 255.255.255.0 HMI= I.P 192.168.0.50 subnet 255.255.255.0 Step 1: Go to the windows home page of the HMI device.

Upon entering the home screen a secondary will appear noting the following: Transfer, Start, Control Panel, & Taskbar. Step 2: Click on Control Panel, select “Profinet”. A secondary will appear with a check box indicating “Profinet I/O enabled”. Check this box. The section below the check box indicates the device name given to the HMI. Exit the Profinet window, go back to the icon selection screen.

Step 3: Scroll down in the icon list to find “Transfer Settings “and open it. Be sure that on Channel 2 Ethernet is selected and the “Enable Channel” selection box is checked. There is a button to right named “Advanced” click it. Step 4: From the advanced button you should be directed to a Network Configuration window. In the center is list of network drivers installed on the device.

Select the appropriate driver and click the “Properties” button located on the bottom right of the screen. This will take you to the Onboard LAN Ethernet screen.

Here you have the option to have the HMI obtain the IP automatically or you can specify the desired I.P address. Click Specify I.P address and enter the I.P & subnet desired.

Be sure that it matches the subnet on your Laptop. Note: You cannot use the same I.P address of your laptop/desktop as the one entered on the HMI. The last digit must be different. Step 5: Plug in a cat5 RJ45 Ethernet cable to the HMI and connect it to your Laptop/Desktop. Step 6: Exit out and go back to the windows home screen of the HMI to see Transfer, Start, Control Panel, & Taskbar. Hit the transfer button. The HMI will state “connecting to device”.

This is fine, the HMI must be in transfer mode for the laptop to extract the program. Step 7: Load Prosave.

The first screen to populate upon launch will be the General Tab. Here you will select the HMI device and the method of communication which here is Ethernet. Once you select Ethernet it will prompt you to enter the I.P address of the HMI you just configured or noted. Enter the I.P address of the HMI in this selection. Next, select the Backup Tab on the top and select what data type you would like to extract from the HMI.

Last select the directory or location you would like to save the backup file. Once completed click the “Start Backup” button and the program will commence back up.
